How to get started with your new Amazon Workspaces Desktop

What do I need to do to get started?

You will need to carry out the following steps in order to get started with your new desktop:

Receive the setup email

You should receive an email from Amazon Workspaces, it will be sent to your [email protected] email address.

If you do not receive the email, please check your junk folder, if you cannot find it please email Bharat Kerai ([email protected])

Set your new Password

You will need to set a password for your new desktop, this will be the password you access everything with from now on (your Office 365 password will remain as-is for the next few weeks).

Please set as secure a password as possible and make a note of it somewhere secure. We can reset this password for you but it needs human intervention.

To set the password click the link in step 1 of the email.

Install the Amazon Workspaces Client

The Amazon Workspaces Client is used to access your desktop. If you have used RDP (Microsoft Remote Desktop) previously you can think of this as something similar. If you do not have it already, you need to install this on your laptop, you can download it from: https://clients.amazonworkspaces.com/

It is available for Windows, Mac, Linux and even for your iPad or Phone (we would not advise using it through a web browser as this can present problems especially when printing).

Download the installer appropriate for your machine (it should already be highlighted) and when the download is complete run the installer

Follow the steps required to install. If you are prompted about USB redirection tick the box as follows:

when the installation is complete, you should see the Workspaces Icon on your desktop - launch it (if it did not launch automatically after the install).

Set the Registration Key

When you launch the Workspaces client for the first time, you will be asked for your registration key. The key to fill in is:

wslhr+UPU9M5

Sign in with your username and password

Once your registration key has been set, you can sign in with your username (name.surname) and the password you set above.

You may find it easier to tick the 'keep me logged in box'.

You should see your shiny new desktop and should be ready to go!

At this point feel free to browse around your new desktop. You can find further information in the FAQs.

Change a few settings for performance and your webcam

You will find it easier to use your new desktop if you make a few changes prior to using it.

Firstly you should enable your workspaces client to use your webcam and microphone. This will allow you to use apps such as Microsoft Teams as if you were directly connected to your desktop. You do this when you are logged in by clicking the small cloud icon top right of the window:

From there you should be able to set your camera and microphone to redirect to your workspace.

Next, you should enable Hi DPI mode if your screen looks pixelated or zoomed in. You can enable this on the workspace client by selecting the 'Display Settings' option under the Settings menu.

Once you have selected this, you can enable (or disable if you wish) High DPI mode

Lastly, the first time you open one of the Office applications, you will be asked to sign in. This sign in will be the Office 365 username and password which you were initially provided with during the previous O365 transition.

If you have problems with your password, please contact Adam ([email protected])
